Weekly Mail August 6, 2017
Yo!
So yesterday I turned 44 years old, I'm now officially middle aged man. It is what it is.
But things are good, for the most part. What's more disconcerting then my rapidly ascending age, is that of my kid. Timmy will be 9 at the end of the month and I'd really like to know where the hell those 9 years went. It seems like yesterday, we were bringing him home from the hospital. Now he is heading into 4th grade.
But that's still a month away. I've heard some people this week say that "The summer is practically over." No no no! We still got a good month left of fun, so to all of you out there, party on!
Incidentally if I had any say about it, I would outlaw any back to school commercial from the airwaves at least until August 6. Ideally I would like them to start no sooner than August 15, but that's not quite realistic. I feel the same way about Back to school sales as I do about Black Friday. Of course nobody gets killed going for back to school shopping like they do on Black Friday, but I find both equally aggravating.
THIS DATE IN HISTORY- August 5, 1973.
A few years ago, probably when I turned 40, I was perusing Google Newspapers and I read a couple of editions of different newspapers from August 6, 1973. Wanted to see what else was happening in the world the day I came into it.
The big story in the world that day was a terrorist attack at Athens International Airport. Two members of the group Black September (the same creeps who orchestrated the massacre at the Summer Olympics in Munich the previous year) opened fire in the airport lounge and tossed hand grenades, killing 5 and injuring 55.
What caught my attention in reading the stories were that several of the casualties were Americans. More specifically, being that one of the departing flights was bound for New York City, several locals were amongst the victims. One of them, who died a month later from his injuries, lived right here in Oceanside.
What are the odds of that?
Let's lighten it up a little.....
VOYEURISM- Hot Sheets Hotel Downtown
A housing complex on the Lower East Side last week complained that patrons of the new hotel across the street, the Public House, are putting on shows you would normally catch at the local brothel.
Several residents claimed that guests are doing the wild thing in plain view of the outside world. According to DNA Info.com, the hotel has floor to ceiling windows and getting it on in those windows is not only allowed but encouraged by the hotel administrators.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but if I were younger and single, I'd move to that housing complex in a minute. You get to live in the city, for a reasonable price and you don't have to pay for HBO or Skinemax.
It calls to mind when the SkyDome first opened in Toronto, and a couple was caught having sex during a Blue Jays game. Many people suggested that they rename the SkyDome the same name of the previous place the Blue Jays played.
Exhibition Stadium.
Next week is the season finale. Then we're off till September 10, followed by our season premiere, (and 100th Post) on September 17.
Have a Great Week
